

his architectural treasure needed love. Designer Vanessa Alexander and her husband have lived in Malibu for years. When the Sea Ranch–style home they’d long admired for its post-and-beam architecture and setting on a gated street in Point Dume became available, they couldn’t resist the opportunity to buy and revive it.
“We weren’t sure whether we were building it for ourselves or perhaps ultimately as a speculative project,” says Alexander, the founder of Alexander Design and cofounder of development firm Alexander Built Properties. “We just knew that we loved it and wanted to breathe new life into what we considered a very special piece of Malibu architecture.”
